Serious Charge against a Chinaman

A Chinaman, named Le Chong, wat arrested at Devonport to-day upon s charge of assaulting with intent tc commit rape upon a married woman named Tfwiiwh Meyrs, wife of a market gardener and small farmer near Lake Takapuna on Sunday afternoon. The husband offered £5 to square the matter, but his arrest was the outcome. Poultry and Produce Exhibition A meeting of the Committee of the Poultry and Produce Show was held on Saturday evening in Mr Bray'a office. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary, Mr E. Groodbehere, read the balance sheet, which was adopted. From this document it appeared that the show was a financial success, inasmuch as the expenditure was equalled by the receipts. The payment of certain cash special prizes yet outstanding, will facilitate the closing of accounts by the Secretary. Persons indebted to the society are therefore requested to forward cheques at once. A resolution was passed awarding to Mr Louis Holden a certificate of merit for his Neapolitan pig, which had been entered in error in a wrong class at the show. The Secretary remarked that the support accorded to the exhibition by the sister townships was — nil. This was not what was expected, especially .jNjtß Bulls, for when the show was belt in that village, Feilding gave it tits dtost liberal support in every possible way. This being all the business the meeting closed in the usual way.
