Fatal Fight In Sydney
It was reported oa the 7th in*t. that ir mmder had been, committed is Sussez•tr*rt, Sydney. Subsequent inquiries •hewed that a fatal assault had taken place in that "neighbourhood, but it did aot appear to be a caw of murder. Two shoemakers, named Michael Allan, aged between 35 and 40 years, and Charles Ashton. who had been lodging together with a If rt John t-appery, at No 327 Suisex-street, fell out and came to blows, They had intended to go to a shoemakers picnic, but whilst their landlady was pre paring a meal. for them, they took more drink than was good for them. A quarrel onsued, in irliieh the deceased — Michael Allan— is said to havejbeen the aggressor The won fought im th« kitchen," and subsequently in a back yard ; and whilst in the latter place Allan ii laid to have, been knocked down and kicked. Death was almost instantaneous. Dr. Mil ford examined the body, but declined under the circumstances to certify as to the cause of death. Ashton gave himself up to the police at So. 1 station last nightHe laid on representing himself to Sergeant Shankleton, " I hear there is a man dead, and I have come to give myself up." He appeared to be much cast down »t what transpired.
