[SEUTEBS TKLEOBAHS.I Madbid, August 22. The action of Germany in regard to the Caroline Islands has caused great excite- ; ment in this city, and an anti-German feeling is rapidly growing into existence. The diplomatic tension between the two countries is so great at the present time that an open rupture is menaced.

In connection with the annexation of the Caroline Islands by Germany, the Spanish squadron stationed at Manilla lias been ordered to proceed to those islands. It is | stated that the annexation is subject to the rights of Spain. It is expected that the majority of the Powers will support the protest of the latter country.
