RAILWAY REFORM.
TO THX EDITOB OP THS STAB.
Sib,— The District Manager «f the Railway, in refusing to grant cheap excursion tickets on the 10th of next month, the day on whioh the Poultry and Produce Show is to be held here, is only a confirmation of the words of Mr Vaile, of Auckland, in his able advocacy of cheap fares. Mr Vaile clearly demonstrates that the business man who sought the office of manager one day has become the officer of high degree the next day, and therefore he simply looks upon the travellers by the railway as "common people," not j worthy of consideration ajpithe office of the late great Mogul, who, no doubt, this august personage imagines himself to equal in power. This littleness of mind, as I can with truth term such a course of proceeding, is backed up by Mr Richardson, the Minister for Public Works, who, from his place in the seventh heaven of £1200 ayear and chances, refuses the sawmill owners the privilege of sidings on their paying freight. My advice is— adopt Mr Vaile's views, and by prompt action at public meetings all over the country, demand what is so urgently required in New Zealand— immediate rtform. — I am, &c., E. H. Weight. Manure, Feilding, August 20th, 1885.
