The bench dismissed the charges brought by the crew against Captain Raymond, of the Grassmere, of threatening language, and the captain has withI drawn the charges of conspiracy against | 13 of the crew. A Maori named Na Maki was arrested at Wangarei on a charge of attempted rap«> on a Maori woman. No settlement of the ironworks' strike has yet been effected. Wellington, This Day. The tender of R. Ran some, of Wellington, has been accepted for the construction of tbe new Opera House. The work is to be completed in eight months. Dr Chilton has been dismissed by the Government from tbf position of Resident s urgeon of the Wellington Hospital. He was offered the alternative of resigning, but refused it.
