Fatal Boat Accident

(feom otjk own cobbespondent.) Taupo, This Day.

A fatal boat accident occurred here on Sunday morning. AMr Ashman, Eoad Overseer of the Taupo and Napier road, and Mr Kingsfoord, lineman, went out boating, when a heavy squall capsized the boat. The men were both clinging on to the boat — which was being continually rolled over by the waves — for two hours and a half, when Mr Ashman sank from cold and exhaustion. The lineman was washed ashore with the boat on some rocks under a high bluff, when even there he had great difficulty in saving himself. Ashman's body has not yet been recovered. This sad accident has cast quite a gloom over the place, as Ashman was well-known and respected.
