Mr Macartbur gave notice.— That • return be laid before this House of all expenditure by the General Government on roads and bridge-; from tbe Ist April, 1882, to tbe 31st March. 1885, giving the I expenditure separately for each financial ' year and for eueh ennaty, under the following heading:— <l» Grants^ for main roads nader the r°<ids and Bridges Construction Act, exclusive of the onefourth repajable by the local bedy. (2) Grants fer district roads under the same Act all payable by the local body in fifteen years, with interest. (3) Expenditure to open up Cr»»n lands before sale. (4) Expenditure on colonial reads by the General Government. (5) Total of onethird of instalments on deferred-payment lands handed over to lecal bodies. (6) Tote. (7) Expenditure mnder the Tete for " Boads North of Auckland." The Minister for Public Werks saii the return would cost £200 to prepare* and suggested that the motion should be postponed until a similar return moved for had been presented. The matter was than adjuurned. Mr Laroach moved the committal of the Mines Act 1877 Amendment Bill. Mr Rolleston asked how was the revenue of the gold districts to be recouped if the duty was abolished and tbe license fees reduced. ° Mr Larnaeh said the Gold Duty Abolition Act Amendment Bill would eome before the Mouse at a later period. With regard to miners' license, etc., he said that while travelling through the West Coast a great cry was that the fees were to* high. The Government had therefore thought that they should take cognisance of their representations. The House went into Committee, and the bill was agreed to with slight amend* mentsand roported. The House rose at 12.30 a.m. This Day, In the House last night, the debate on the State F vests Bill was resumed. The Bill was passed.
