"Hit or Miss" Farming
♦ " Hit or miss" farming: is no more desirable than the hazard in other businesses. There are more things to be taken, into account, even in' knewa land whether to plough 4in.. 6in., Bin., 10in., or more deep ; and we contend that brains and intelligence are more needed and are more profitable in agriculture than in almost any ether calling. While the native fertility of aome soil is such that they will for a considerable period yield some returns to the man who merely scarifies their surface with a forked stick or a plough and drops in seed, the best results and the highest rewards of labour come to him who.- uses the most mind ; to him who studies the varieties in the kind, make up, situation, level, ete. Ploughing is to be decided by the character and circumstances oi almost every field. Because a certain method on a certain field has appeared to be successful, it is by no means certain that the best success hag been reached. — Prairie farmer.
