A magic lantern and entertainment will be given at the Foresters' Hall on Friday evening next. The Rev. Mr Tinsley will conduct the entertainment. Captain Edwin telegraphs — Barometer fall at all stations. Tel* gams for strong winds after 16 hours hare been sent to all stations. We are glad to hear, on excellent authority, that several large and commodious buildings are likely to be erected in Feilding_ before the end of the current year. The* slackness in the building trade which has obtained for some time has now almost disappeared, but there is no more work for men connected with this trade than can be overtaken by the carpenters resident in the Borough. We have been shown the plans of the ■•w business premises about to be erected at the corner of Manchester and Bowen streets by Mr J. W. Eade. of the Feilding furniture and bedding warehoime. The building will comprise a shop, workshop, and dwelling, and will be not only commodious, and in every way adapted for Mr Eado's require nents, bu* will be an ornament to that part of the town. Mr E. H. Wright C. E. is the architect. As a reason for the refusal o r the Government Insurance Association Board to lend £50.000 to the Parliament Borough Council, the Post says :•— The money would have been lent readily on the terms proposed had the Board been tatisfied as to the security. When they name to examine into this they found chat |t*> provide interest on the loan would involve such a very heavy rate that property in the Borough would certainly be depreciated in value there* by. They therefore deolined to lend the m«ney. This, and this only, is the reason why the transaction fell through.
