♦ [BEUTEBS TKLEGBAM9.I London, July 17. A deputation, headed by the Right Hon. Kobert Fowler, M.P., Lord Mayor of London, waited upon Lord George Hamilton, I' irst Lord of the Admiralty, 1 to-day. His Lordship said, in reply to the questions put by the deputation, that ! the Government has decided to reclassify ' ironclads, aad discard those which were inefficient He further stated that the Government would com Die t# with the various colonies the work of defending their principal towns* Arrived at Plymouth, Orient Company's E. M.S. Austral. The Agent-General for New South Wales (Sir Saul Samuel) announced today that his Government had decided to abandon the projected loan for the present, owing to the uncertainly at to whether peace would be maintained. The Shaw Savill and Albion company's s.s. Doric left Plymouth this afternoon for New Zealand ports. The New South Wales loan has been j postponed indefinitely. The city finan- j ciers consider this fortunate, ewing to the difficulty with Russia aver the Zulfikar Pass. The Agent-General will discuss the amendments proposed by New South Wales in the Federation Bill with Col. Stanley, Secretary of State for the colonies, «n Saturday next. A report hbs reached the War Office that the Soudan " prophet" is dead. The statement is reported to be confirmed by ' a refugee from Khartoum, but no details have been received.
