Sir Julius Yogel
Thr petition of Sir Julius Vogil to the House praying for aome compensation for services rendered to the colony in connection with the raising of loans, was presented on Thursday night. At the present juncture of affairs we think a bad time has been chosen for this application. It has. been made before, and definitely declined, when the colony was flush of money, therefore when the colony is poor, and with a falling revenue, it is not likely to meet a better fate. From a certain faith we hare in the petitioner, we do not think that he is the prime mover in the matter. There is a power behind in the admitted imperuniousity of the petitioner, " his necessity not his wilt consents," or Parliament would never have heard of the claim again. We have no desire to apparently prejudge the merits of the case, but it will be difficult far us to believe that any new light wUI be thrown on them which will tend to a reversal of the previous decision arrived at by the Hall Ministry.
