Feilding Public Library
At the last meeting of the Borough Council a sum of ten pounds was voted to be expended in the purchase of new books for the library. Although this amount is small, yet when it is supplemented with the proceeds of the sale of journals and periodicals which will take place this day week, and with the contributions of members and new subscribers, a very respectable amount will be available. We would now remind those who have been waiting until this time to add their names to the list of members, that the sooner they do so the better for themselves. It is important that as large a list of new books be made up, and sent for as soon as possible, for the expenses on a small consignment are quite as much as on those of a large one. To those sensible people who are already subscribers, we would urge the necessity of getting their friends to join them in the good work, if only from the selfish desire to have a larger selection of books to choose from, for their own reading. It must not be forgotten that Sir Julius Yogel has consented to place a sum on the estimates for subsidies to public libraries, and as the amount received by each is in proportion to its revenue, the library funds receive a double benifit from each sum paid in by the public. We trust this appeal will be liberally responded to.
