To-day's Gazette contains the announcement of the appointment of Sir Robert Hart, late Chinese Commissioner of Customs, as British Minister at Pekin, in room of the late Sir Harry Farkes. The members of the new Ministry were sworn in yesterday. Tho RigHt Hon. R. Bovrke has been appointed Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs. It is announced that tbe Very Rev. Dr. Walsh, Bishop of Kiidare, has been appointed Archbishop of Dublin, in succession te the late Cardinal McCabe At to-day's wool auction, 7,700 bales were catalogued. Tbe market was rather weaker. It is announced that the Queen has been pleased to confer tho Order of the Garter upon Earl Kimberlej and the Grand Cross of the Bath upon Viscounts Eversley and Sherbrooke, Sir Nathaniel de Rothschild and Sir R. W. Linger, X.C.8., Permanent Secretary to the Treasurer, Mr Edward Baring and Mr Samuel Morley, M.P. for Bristol, have all been raised to the peerage. The English Government have approved of the joint report prepared by Mr Thurston and Dr Krauel on the Angl«<German Commission on Western Pacific affairs. The German Government are now considering it. Mr Hugh Holmes, Q.C., has been appointed Attoraey-General, and Mr John Monroe, Q.C., Solicitor-General for Ireland. Her majesty the Queen has arranged a compromise between the leaders, and it has now been agreed to pass the Federation Enabling Bill. San Fbaxcisco, June 24. An envoy from King Kalakaua, of the Sandwich Islands, has arrived hero. It is believed that tbe object of bis visit is to negotiate the annexation of Hawaii by the United States.
