OPENING OF PARLIAMENT.
[rpVTßr's TBLROBAMS.j Received June 17, 11 p ■>• Melbourne, June 17. The Victorian Government was opened to-day by Sir Henry In eh. The Speech from the Throne acknowledges the prompt response niadf by all classes of the community to the demands of Government for increased naval and military protection for tho colony. It is expected during the coming session the Government will be able te submit to Parliament a measure for giving effect to the Enabling Act, passed by the Imperial Government, providing for the federation of the colonies. The speech concludes with congratnlations on the flourishing condition ef the colony generally. Albany, June 16. The Peninsular A Oriental Sttam Navigation Company's steamship Rome arrived here this morning with the London mails to the 15th of May. Melbofbnk, June 16. The men charged with the robbery at the Simpson branch of the National Bank of Australia were brought before the Magistrate to-day and remanded. Adklaidb, June 17. The barque Fannie, bound from Newcastle to Wallaroo, has run ashore at Kangaroo Island. She took fire after striking, and is now ablaze from stem to stern. Cheistchvbch, This Day. At the Supreme Conrt the case of Saunders v. Cabot, a claim for restoration of land, was concluded, the jury returning a verdict for plaintiff on nearly all the issues. Judgment was deferred sending the argument in certain law points. _______
