The Fielding Star. TUESDAY, JUNE 16, 1885. Government Insurance

♦ # I Each person whose life is insured in the Government Association, hag now received papers stating the reasons for and against the proposal made anent the creation of Local Boards in the chief centres of the colony. We have therefore no reason to enter into a detailed account of their several contents with the arguments advanced on each side. Our only duty is to advise policy holders to vote against the proposals. If these Boards are permitted to be formed they will only become an additional tax on the insurers. It is a fact which speaks volumes, that the three members ot the Board who were elected by the insurers, are those who are offerring sturdy opposition to the , proposals supported by the Government party on the Board. This condition of affairs confirms the views expressed by us in an article on the 6th inst., in which we refer to the preponderance of power which may be brought to bear against the three representatives of the insurers. These gentlemen are actuated by an evident desire to secure economy of management, while the others appear to be only too anxious to foist on us twenty-four pensioners at £100, and sixteen at £150 a year each who, with "incidentals," would put another £8400 on our shoulders. We hope there are but few premium payers in this part of the colony who will be se forgetful of their own best interests as to support such a glaring scheme, especially as with its adoption all hopes •f a bonus, for some years at least, must be laid aside.
