Death of a Footballer
A. singularly sudden death took place -^ during a football match in Moore Park, Sydney, on Saturday, the 9th May. At the inquest it transpired that the deceased was a young man, aged seventeen, named John William Cahill, living with his widowed mother at Surrey Hills- The fame he was engaged in was a scratch match played by the members of the Victoria House ( lub and their friends. He had not been plajing more than three minutes, when, in running in the direction of. the ball, he was observed to fall forward on his face. As he fell, one •f the other players fell over him. The Other player jumped up immediately and ran on. but Cahill did not rise. Thinking there was something wrong, a number of young men ran to his assistance. When they took him up he was breathing heavily and while being.removed to Furnesa' Hotel he expired. On tbe medical evidence of DrGilhooly the jury returned a rerdict bf death from sanguineous apoplexy, the result of congestion of the brain and its membranes. f
