A very tad ease of downing occurred in the river last light, t-.e victim being a Mrs Adamson, the wife of a baker in Hawera, who, there is , too much reas»n tebelieve, has made away with himself. Mr* Adam»on arriv ed it} tewn with a little daughter, some tea or (welre yeir» old, on Saturday night, and applied to Constables McLeaaan and Gror for advice and assistance, having, she said* -ah left her home through some family dia« ■ turbance. The police, however, wer» unable te do anything for her, and festerslajr afiernoea she declared her intention of returning home by the train. Unfertunat.'lj, she took the traia to Martoa by misUke, and returned by the late train at 10 o'clock. Apparently, having no f .endi and aowhere to go, she lost heart, jtndtougbt refuge in the river. Shortly * after the train. came in, the little girl reported to the police that her meiher had jumped off the wharf.
