The Mysterious murder at St Louis
The San Francisco papers refer to the mysterious St. Louis murder for which St. Anguie was arrested on the City of Sydney on the alleged charge of committing it. A headless body, registered as C. Arthur Prellor, London, was found in a trunk in a St. Louis -hotel on tke 13th of April. "When the trunk was opened the body of a middle aged man was found, doubled ujv in it On the side- of the trunk and over the head of the corpse was painted in large letters the Words " So perish all traitors to the great cause.' ' The body presented a horrible aspect} and was in au advanced state of decomposition. Thu personal effects in the murdered man's trunks indicated that the owner was a irentle man of men of means and culture. His: room mate was Walter A, LennQx Maxwell, .Who is accused of the murder, also an; j&uglishmau and a Frenchman. The Maxwell's are residing on an estate/ at' Druramella, Ireland. ; One ef the men- had disappeared, and the de_te,ctives learned "that he left San Franciscti in disguise on the steamer City of Sydney under the name of Daaquire Preller. The murdered man belonged Ho the Plymoufh. Isrethien and had strong religious principals.
