Chamber of Commerce

Now that Wanganui has an associated Chamber of Commerce, we hope that body wi 11 invite business men from the coast, north and south, to become members in order that the Chamber may form a powerful representative body, whose ramifications are to be found in every centre of the population from Hawera to Foxton. Commercial and other business men are more united in matters of common interest on the West Coast of the North Island, than in any other part of the Colony, but although the unity exists it is only in spirit, for practically from want of opportunities of meeting together, they have had no means of turning that unity to account by making a combination which would be powerful enough to command respect, and exercise beneficial influence in the direction of m,uoh-needed reform in certain very important matters affecting their common welfare. If our suggestion be adopted that want would no longer exist.
