TO THB EDITOR OF THB STAB. Sib,—" Citizen's " letter if Tuesday's Star is a masterpiece of sarcasm. So delicately veiled is tne irony of hie letter that many of our rateptfyefty have been deluded into the ,belie£ that " Citizen " serioudy advocate* 1 tho paying off an overdraft oi*am±£6QQ by public subscription, in order that we may still continue to pay one half -our small revenue away to official* for administering the other Im-I-— witMl^ assistance of a Mayor and nine oounn cillorsthrown in— and lhis m or&er that an official or two may be induce^ to kindly remain in the district. Noniy of those who advocate' tho ' retrendl-^ ment of our -working expenditure Havo shown up the folly of. our past syetetc. so ably as "Citizen," in his ironieal proposals, and, as Mayor, I ! have t# thank him most heartily for the assist*, ance his letter wiU give md in forming public opinion so soon as its real tenor is properly understobd.-^I "am^- fte.y j i IX H.
