The merchant shippiog Underwriters' Association aunouncc the following scale ' of war risks to be charged for insuring vessels to the colonies: outward steamers, J per cent. ; sailing vessels, £ per cent ; homeward steamers, £ per cent ; sailing ressels £ per cent. J '■'* •' ' ' Intelligence to hand from Geelong announces the arrest of Mrs Beech' and Frank Haworth, charged with tbe murder of Francis Beech, a farmer at Pettavel, ten miles from Geelong,- on the 20th of February, v 1884.. The female prisoner isthe widow of the murdered man, and Haworth was employed as butcher on the nremises. ' Sydney. April 12. It is currently reported that His Excellency Lord Loftus and Admiral Tryon are in receipt ot instructions from the Imperial Government in regard to the necessary steps for promoting the efficiency of the naval and land defence,* of the colony.
