We direct the attention of our readers to Mr Fred. Train's new apvertisement. The programme of the concert in aid of the Roman Catholic Church, on the 17th instant, will appear shortly. Tenders for the erection of a dwelling house are called by Mr Fred. Train. Plans may be seen at the Cash Exchange. There was only one occupant of the police cells last night on a charge of intoxication. Letters by San Francisco mail were received by train last night, and duly delivered. Newspapers, &c, will arrive to-night. At Auckland yesterday tho Easter Handicap was won by Turquoise, and at Christchurch the Autumn Handicap was won by Eubma. R. A. Edwin telegraphs. — Barometer Further rise everywhere, but falling agaia nfter 16 hours at all places south of Lyttelton and Hokitika. A report of Mr Walton's lecture, given on Sunday evening, und also the formation of the Lyceum. are unavoidably held over till next issue. A manifesto was issued by the dynamiters assembled in Paris on the oth March, addressed to the Prince of Wales, pledging him safety during his visit to Ireland because he is a Freemason. The members of the Manchester Rifles will return by the last train from Wanganui this evening from the Easter Encampment. On being extrained, they will march round the town. We understand torch lights will bo prepared to accompany them. Volunteers who did Jiot go to the encampment are requested to fall in at the railway station. The glove contest between Pettengell. of Wellineton, and Tengne of Christchurch, took place at the Queen's Theatre (Christcharch), last Wednesday. There was a large attendance. After about twenty-seven minutes' sparring Pettenjiell was declared the winner, the oilier man not being able to come to time. The stakes were for £50 a-side. Yesterday an accident happened on Makino Road to a horse and trap be« longing to Mr Young. The animal stumbled over a boulder that wan only partly embedded, and fell, pitching the driver and occupants including several little children out, some of whom Ml under the horse's feet. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt, but the horse was injured, and one of the shafts of the trap was broken. The Feilding folk, together with the numerous visitors, had a great treat last night in the grand firework display given on tho cricket ground by Mr Newman. The vertical wheels, horizontal wheels, caprice wheels, shells, flying pigeons, &c, were all splendid, and very much admired, while the asteroid rockets and the brilliant sun were particularly noticeable, and were a grand eight. The ovening was eminently adapted for tho display, which attracted some hundreds of spectators, many of whom were hoard to express themselves as delighted. Woodyear's Circus again played here last night, the spacious marqee being once more filled with a delighted audience, who manifested their approval of the shew by frequent applause. The clever exploits of the horhcmcn and tumblers, the wonderful performances of the Japanese, the side splitting drolleries of the two clowns, in which several Iocnl"gae8" were aptly introduced, and tke " Liverpool Steeplechase," with which the show ended, all went to ranke up a capital evening's aniUKement. and a suitable wiud-up to the holiday proceedings. During the week a husband was sentenced to a fortnight's imprisonmeut, without the option of a fine for sleeping under the house of his wife.
