Feilding Easter Races

Yesterday was one of the brightest and finest days that vre have experienced this summer, and in consequence the attendance of the public on the race course was very large, although somewhat short of that of last year, from other attractions at Palmeroton. However, all the purchasers of priviliges reaped a golden harvest. The Makino Band, under the able leadership of Mr Curreen, was on the ground, and their excellent rendering of several exquisite pieces of music tended greatly to the pleasure of the meeting. The catering was altogether a success, and we observed that Messrs Summers and Mayhew were liberally patronised. The side show of the circus was on the ground, and the " cow with many horns," with the miniature stallion, were visited by numerous individuals desirous of seeing these marvels of nature. There was almost a total absence of anything like rowdyism, owing in a great measure to the presence of an efficient body of police. The racing events were ail well contested, with the exception of one of the hack races, where Leader ran away from the eight other starters and was never oven approached by one of them. This horse seems fit for better things. We congratulate the club on the admirable selection made of officers to conduct the business of the meeting. The club is also indebted to Mr W. Gr. Haybittle, who acted as Clerk of Scales in the absence of J. Leigh, Esq., who was unable to attend.
