A witness in his cross-examination at the R.M. Court yesterday was closely questioned as to whether it was not his intention to leave the colony. It is suggested that a church parade of the Manchester Rifle Volunteers be held before they proceed to the Easter En eampment at Nelson. The parade should take place on the Sunday before the corps takes it* departure. We hope the idea will be carried out.

He plays a leading part, nnd it is under his orders that formidable entrenchments have been erected at the Mahdi's camp in Omdurmaa, four miles from Khartovm.

For some time past many persons htve expressed a wish that a Lodge of Good Templars should be instituted in Feildtag tinder the American Constitution. Mr Hammond has exerted himself in th* matter with the result that a lodge which was named the" Favorite" was instituted under the above named Constitution on Monday evening last, when the following principal officers were elected : — Bro, Hammond, W.C.T. ; Sister Wild bore. W.V.T. ; Sister Pawson, W.0.; Bro. Wildbore, W.L.D. The other officers are to be elected at a meeting to be held at the Foresters' Hall on Saturday evening next, when further initiations of members will be made, and any person wishing to join may do so. We under* that a lodge under the same authority was instituted at Palmerstea on Tuesday evening last.
