THE SATURDAY HALFHOLIDAY.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE STJIR. Sir, — I am glad to find the Stab office has set the example and sent the ball rolling with reference to the observance .of the " Employment-of Females and Others Act," which prohibits the employment of all females and children, and all young persons under 18 years of age, after on Saturdays. I since learn that Constable Meehan has received strict injunctions to enforce the Act^Tand has already warned several employers of the consequences of its infringe* ment. I would now suggest! that the^; i Saturday half holiday be observec^ generally here as it is being done in in some' other townships. That is to say let all places of business having employes be closed punctually at two, with the understanding that shops, stores, &c, be re-opened, <- say at six o'clock. This would give employers and employed— all in f apt-y-an opportunity of a little relaxation and enjoyment. I would especially commend . the idea- to strict Sabbatarians, who object to our taking that recreation on Sunday for wliich we have no time on other days. Perhaps the Early dosing Association will take* the matter up, and if all concerned were agreeable I see no difficulty whatever in the matter. — I am, &c, • s Citizen.
