Acclimatisation Society

A meeting of gentleman was held on Thursday last in the offices of Halcombe and Sherwill to take steps to form an Acclimatisation Society. Mr Sherwill was voted to the chair. Dr Johnston proposed, and E. FitzHerbert seconded, That a society be formed to be called the Manchester and Kiwitea Acclimatisation Society. — Carried. The following officers were then elected: — H. L. Sherwill president, Dr Johnston vice-president, Mr J. Beattie secretary and treasurer. Council: Messrs Sherwill, Kirton^ Johnston, Beattie, Haybittle, Fitzherbert, G. W. Fowles, Bilderbeck, Towler, Hammond, Saxon, Norman, Bellve. Three to form a quorum. ■ . - . .Resolved, That the annual subscrip- ■ Ison be 108. Resolved, That the rules of the Manawatu Acclimatisation Society be adopted. Dr Johnston proposed, and Mr Towler seconded, That the following be the boundaries of the district : — On the north the boundary of the Kiwitea Road Board district, on the south by Jones' Line, on the west by the Rangitikei river, to the northern boundary of the Kiwitea, on the east by the Oroua River, and eastern boundary of the Kiwitea Road Board. Resolved, That a copy of the rules and definition of the boundaries be forwarded at once to the Colonial Secretary. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
