Foxton, Tbis Day. | The Jane Douglas sails for Wellington to-morrow at 11 p.m. COMMERCIAL STEVENS AND GORTON'S RAM FAIR. The annual ram and sheep fair was held l>y the enterprising firm of auctioneers, Messrs Stevens and Gorton, at their yardy. Bulls, on Tuesday, and was a great success. There were 12,000 sheep yarded, tbe princiule portion of which were sold under the hammer at satisfactory prices. Colonel Gorton wedded the hammer. Although the principal feature of tbe fair is the offering for pnbhc competition of a number of purebred stud rams and ewes yet there were some thousands of sheep of both sexes and all ages effered for sale. There were 42 lots submitted to auction, consisting of wethers, ewes, and iambs. One pen of ewes fetched 10s and another was Eassed in at 9s 6d, the vendors waiting a igher price for them. A pen of lambs fetched 6* 6d. A fine lot oi wethers were passed in at 10s, the vendor wanting 12s 6d for them. MAIL NOTICES.
