[reuter's telegrams. J Mblrourne, February 13. Arrived, this morning, Te Anau, from the Bluff.
A serious bush fire at Mount Maced >n threatened to envelope the residence now occupied by the Governor. The fire approached very near the house. The smoke and heat were frightful. In the fire at Collingwood the insurances on the premises and stock amounted to £6,000. Sydney, Feb. 12 At the Cabinet Council held to-day, itwas decided to make an offer to the Imperial Government to despatch from New South Wales to Suakim within a j m mth two battalions of infantry five hundred strong, to form a part of the expedition to the Soudan. Considerable excitement prevails here in consequence of the the decision of the Government.

The bootmakers' strike is now practically ended, and it is expected the men will resume work on Monday.
