[per united press association. Haweka, February 11. The illicit distill.i tion cases were partly heard today. Anderson and Smith, the makers, were each convicted on one information. Bourke, the brewer, charged with conveying whiskey, was convicted on two informations. More cases come on to-morrow, and in the meantime no sentences have been pronounced. Dunedin, This Day. The Governor arrived by special trian last night. A good deal of interest is being worked up by the temperance and moderate parties over the licensing elections, and both parties will put candidates in the field. Adamant is reported to have done the best gallop on the racecourse this season, and has advanced to 100 to 5, at which price he has been backed for a good stake. *> Wellington, This Day. A ship, supposed to be the Mataura from London, is off the Heads.
