Tint feeling of public indignation and disgust pervading all classes of the people regarding the miscarriage in the Soudan is un paralleled, and in consequence Consols have declined _ per cent. Profound sympathy is expressed on the Continent at the failure of Lord Wolseley's expedition to rescue Gordon. It is reported that 2000 of Gordon'a followers were massacred, and the palace at Khartoum was completely gutted by the^re-els. , Accounts to hand from Sir Charles Wilson's expedition from Metenmeh to Khartoum state that to him the palace at the latter place appeared to be wrecked and it was the general opinion that Gordon had been killed, but the Mahdi's messenger, who came to Wiiion with a summons to surrender, asserted that he (Gordon) was alive. Caibo, Feb. 7. Latest telegrams from Korti state that General Earle's progress towards Berber is unopposed, aud that atekmers from Gubat are able to patrol the river and obtain supplies. Receiving February 10, 10 a.m. London-, Feb 9. It has transpired that Lord Granville has informed Fehmi Pasha, the Egyptian Finance Minister, now in London, that England intends to evacuate Egypt, but it is impossible at the present time to fix a date for to withdraw the troops. Received February 10, 1.5 a.m. London, February 9. It is announced that the following reinforcements have been ordered to Egypt — 20th Hussars and three battalions of infantry from Malta and Gibraltar and two battalions of infantry and a oavalry regiment from India.
