The native Minister has agreed to defer calling for tenders for the first section of the Northern Trunk Railway for three weeks, to allow the natives to arrange matters amongst themselves. Te Wheoro is urging the Kingites not to seek redress at the ha.nds of the Colonial Government. The Home Government, he said, would do this, and if after six months' grace the Colonial Governuient refused to do its duty in the matter, Mr Gorst would be sent out as a Jtojal commissioner, and whole management of Native affairs would be placed in his hands. The body of Alick Murphy, steward of the Wairoa whaleboat crew, drowned on the 27th January, has . been recovered. M. De. Harven has gone to Waiwera to interview Sir Julius Yogel. He brought three silver- mounted fowling pieces for presentation to Jawhiao, Te Tuni and Te. Wheoro. Harry Martin, son of Albin who went out shooting yesterday, was found shot dead in a swamp to-day.
