Cheap Labor
We read in the British Mail that the annual hiring was held at Durham on the 15th NoTember last, when there was a good attsndnnce of servants. Men were hired at from £9 to £12, a reduction of £1 for the half year, consequent on the agricultural depression;), and women weie hired at the same prices as heretofore, namely, £9 10f to £11 for bwt, . and £6 10* t-» £8 for second'.. Second men and boys were enijage^ at from £4 tp|£B 10s. These prices for labor in England are astonishing to coloni«tf, accustomed to the liberal wages given mNew Zealand.
