Mr S. Vaile, the railway reformer, has received a letter trom Mr Conyers, in which he urges that gentleman to continue his agitation in favour of his scheme for railway management. He states that, atter mature consideration, he regards the leading principal of it as thoroughly sound and practicable.
Arrived, schooner Aurora, from Samoa. She brings news to the effect that the Germans are exceedingly annoyed at the action of King Malitoa re the petition to the British port, and it » reported that they are fomenting a movement to depose him in faror of vice-King Tamasen, who i« more favorable to German interests. ! Wlien the Aurora left, Webber, a German i merchant, Tamases, and several chiefs were holding a conference on the subject. No open hostility has been shown towards the King. Ounedin, This Day. A twelTe hours' walking match for £100 aside will take place between Joe Scott and Hancock, the English pedestrian, on the 29th inst. On Friday 3000 bushels of oats and a threshing mill on Greenfield Station were wholly destroyed by fire. The property was uninsured. Chbistchttbch, This Day. A meeting of Moor's creditors was held to-day. The liabilities so far as known are £15,000. The National Bank arcreditors fer nearly £13,000, but are partly secured. The available assets are small. It is reported that the City Council have arranged to obtain a loan of £25,000 from one of the city banks at 5 per cent, without any cost for raising it. Oamahu, This Day. A fierce whirlwind was experienced on the Papakoi Plain on Tuesday afternoon. The wind lifted the roof off a blacksmith's shop, over-turned two threshing mill*, leaving one with its wheels in the air, knocked down trees, and levelled everything it passed over.
