Cr (jfobdbeherej .after'^explaining his reasons for so doing, viz., that in his opinion the District Judge had no power t» grant'" an injunction to stay further proceedings, then moved, That the Town Clerk write to Mr Hankitis, Tequ'esting hint to ascertain, and let the Council kno#i upon what grounds the Judge of the District Court refused to grant an injunction for the-stayof proceedings - : in' 1 ' Blackmore's second action until the costs of the first action had been paid, and whether the proper course to- be adopted would have been to apply to the Supreme Court for an injunction, or a rule to show course why the Judge should.- not stay the proceedings until the costs were paid. Cr. Loudon seconded the motion, and said that in his opinion Mr. HanIrins had committed an error in applying to the District Judge, instead of the Judge of the Supreme Court. After a slight discussion the motion was carried. . : : After discussion on certain legal charges by Mr Hankins, it was moved by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr jßichardson. That this Council considers the sum of five guineas a sufficient iee to Mr Hankins for attending the District Court to defend the case of Blackmore versus the Council, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr Hankinß.— Carried. A copy of the Valuation roll for 'the ensuing year as prepared by the Towi Clerk was laid upon, the table. # : The following notices of motion by Cr Carthew were also hud upon the table:— That permission be granted to graze on the unformed streets of the Borough, for which a license of 10s a year per head be issued by the Town Clerk from the first of January in each year, on the following conditions,- vis., 1 . In no case shall more than 10 cattle be allowed to graze in one herd^ahd to be in charge of an attendant of not less than 14 years of age. 2. No bull shall be registered, or allowed to be at huge within the boundaries of the Borough. 3. The registration to be in force from sunrise to sunset only. . • That the Public Works Committee be requested to inspect all plans and specifications for new works,iand report to the Council before tenders are called for such works, and report to- the,. Council on the completion of all works before the balances of contracts are paid. That the resolution of January Bth, 1885, referring to advertising be rescinded, and that the Council in future advertise on the blackboard in front of the Council office, or in the local newspaper as the circumstances of the case demand. Eesolved, That the next ordinary meeting be held on Thursday, January 29th, at 8.15 p.m. - The ordinary sitting of the Council then-adjourned. A special meeting, of the Council was- then held for the purpose of discussing the matter of erecting Manchester street bridge. Present — The Mayor and ,all the Crs. y. ,• a was resolved, That the standing orders be -suspended : &id tha*t the Council go into committee on the matter of Manchester street bridge/ ■■ After resuming the open sitting, it was moved by'Gir L Tliompsori seconded by, Or Fowles, That tenders be called for the erection of.
