The Blackmore Case
At a meeting of the , Feilding Borough Council, held last evening, the following letter, from, Mr J. H. Hankins, who' Is aqting for the Borough Council, /Was received :— The -Square, Palmerston N., , - ' sth January, 1 885. H. Ij. Shebwiee.', Esq.', ' Mayor of Feilding. Major, &c., Peildiflg^, action Blackmore — '■•;' _ -'■'' : ' " "'■ ! •'' _' I am in receipt! of your letter of the 29th bf December, ultimb. I have taken' the necessary steps to obtain an order' ex parte for staying these proceedings until costs of nonsuit are paid and security given for costs of second action, and on the affidavit of the grounds I have made special mention of the plaintiff having divested himself of his-estate just before action. I have given the plaintiffs solicitor notice of the application which will be made to the district judge in New- Plymouth on Thursday next. . .■.; - I have not • filed ' a statement of defence, and of course shall not take any steps in this direction until after learning the result of the application for stay of proceedings. I have asked for stay of proceedings until after the expiration of fourteen days from date of payment of costs, so as to give me time to plead. , . "• ' Yours faithfully, J. Herbert Hankixs.
