Destructive Fire at Reefton
[PEK UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, This Day. The following are the insurances as far as is yet known on the properties destroyed by fire at Boatman's last evening : Walker's Hotel, estimated value, £1250 ; Mrs Bourke's Hotel, estimated loss, £650; Cassler, bo totahy destroyed, loss, £15U; Gallagher Bros.' store and residence, with stock, loss £3,000; insurance, £500 on stock ; Winford's butcher's shop, totally destroyed, loss £100. n > insurance; Wilson's Hoiei, total loss, L'OOO; Duffy's butchery, loss LIOO, uninsured ; Ferry's store, premises very sliuhily damaged, but stock suffered in removal, esiimated value, £1500 ; Archer's Hotel, and store, £3500. A large quantity of stock was thr< wn into the streets from Gallagher's store, but took fire after removal. It consisted chiefly of d apery. There was no water and no brigade, and the utmost disorganisation prevailed. lie number of people in the township was wholly inadequate to cope with the < v break. It is not je; known whether any lives have been lost, but one person is said to be missing. The fire has demolished the chief business blocks of the place.
