The Anniversary

Tn accordance with announcement, a public meeting was held in the dining room at Hastie's Hotel on Saturday I evening last, to receive a balance-sheet and arrange for the next celebration. Between twenty and thirty persons were present, including some of the oldest settlers on the Manchester Block. Mr Gosling, senior, was voted to the chair, and after reading the advertisement calling called upon the late sec- , retary, Mr Heading, to read- a report - | and balance-sheet of the last anniversary. Mr Hastie, being called in to receive thanks for the accommodation provided for the meeting, said he would have great pleasure in presenting as an extra prize a handsome silver cup. Several other special prizes were also promised in the room, and it was resolved to canvas tradesmen and others for similar gifts. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the public meeting. The committee met afterwards, and adjourned till this evening at 8 o'clock for the purpose of drawing up a programme, which will be published in our issue of Thursday next. .- ;.
