[bEUTEB's TEIEGBAMS.j Adelaide, January 3. The Academy of Music in this city was completely destroyed by fire this morning. It was insured for £13,500. of which £8,500 was held by New Zealand company (sic). Melbourne, January 3. The cricket match between the English team and the combined Australian eleven was resumed to-day, when the latter continued their first innings, which closed for a total of 279. The highest scorers were — Trumble (Victoria), c, 59; and A. H. Jarvis (South Australia), c, 82. Being 122 behind their opponents the Australians followed on, and at the close of the day's play had lost 2 wickets for 66. It has transpired that Major General Scratehleys' instructions are to invite the colonies to increase their contributions towards the cost of the New Guinea protectorate, while the Imperial Government undertakes not to expend more annually than the amount contributed under the regulations for the government of the British territory in New Guinea. Trade will be permitted in all articles of commerce except firearms and explosives, Land sales will take place under direct official, supervision and measures be adopted to impede native labour traffic. January 5. The brig Robinhood, bound from Kaipara to Adelaide, struck on a rock on Flinders Island, in Bass Strait, and became a total wreck. Part of her cargo of timber was landed.
