A Distressing Incident « The Newcastle Chronicle says :— A pain'ul instance of the dire distress experienced by some families in Sunderland has.j\st been discovered. A lady who kept a pig* in the west part of the town, having her suspici>-ns aroused, kept watch upon her stye, aud was surprised at dusk to see a man and woman approach the trough and scoop out the bread, &c. f which had becii put in for the animal's meal. Ihe lady followed the cohple to their home, and alter allowing- a few mm utes to elapse followed them into the house, and was surprised to find fiv^ little children sitting round a table, and re -dily devouring the lood taken from her pig's trough. AN ALARMING DISEASE AFFLICTING? A NUMEROUS CLASS. <> The disease commences with a slight" derangement of the stomach, but, if neglected, it in time involves the whole frame, embracing- the -kidneys, liver, pancreas, and in fact, the entire glandular system, and the afflicted drags out a miserable existence until death gives relief from suffering. The disease is often mistaken Tor other complaints ; but if the reader will ask himself the following questions, he will be able to determine whether he himself is one of the •ifflicted : — Have I distress, pain, or viitficulty in breathing after eating ? Is there a dull, heavy feeling attended by drowsiness ? Have the eyes a yellow tinge? Does a thick, sticky, mucous gather about the gums and teeth in tho morning, accompanied by a disagreeable taste ? Is the tongue coated ? Is there pain in the side and back? Is there a fulness about the right side w if the liver were enlarging ? Is there costiveness ? Is there vertigo or dizziness- when rising suddenly from a horizontal position ? Are the scretions irom the kidneys scanty and highly coloured, with a deposit atter standing ? Does iood ferment soon after eating, accompanied by flatulence or a belching of gas fuom the stomach ? Is there frequent palpitation of the heart** These various symptoms may not be present at one time, but they torment the suflerer in turn as the dreadful disease progresses. If the case be one oi long-standing, there will be a dry, hacking cough, attended after a time by. expectoration. In very advanced stages tbe skin assumes a d rty brownish appearance, and the hands and feet are covered by a cold, sticky perspiration, As the liver and kidneys become . more and , more diseased, rheumatic. pains appearand the usual treatment proves, entirely unavailing against this latter agonising disorder. The orign of this malady is indigestion or dyspepsia, and a small quantity of the proper medicine will remove the disease if taken in its iocipiency. It is most important tbat the disease should be promptly and proj erly treated in its first stages, when a little medicine will effect a cure, and even when it has obtained a strong hold the correct remedy should be perser vetin until every vestige of the disease is eradicated, until the appetite has returned, and the digestive organs restored to a health; condition! The surest aud most effectual remedy ior this distressing complaint is "Seigel's Curative Syrup," a vegetable pre-i paration sold by all Chemists and Medicine Vendors throughout' the world aud by the : proprietors;..
