Prospects of the New Loan
Very early in the new year this colony will, have to.- appeal to the English money lenders. for a loan of two. and a half millions of money. This amount is niade up of the. last million of the three authorised during the session of 1882, and the one million and a half authorised last session. According to Major Atkinson's calculations the third, million should have 'sufficed to carry on public works through the year 1885, but so badly founded werehis calculations, or so reckless were his administration, that not only has r the whole of this million been '^practically anticipated in 1884, bnt it will not, by a considerable sum, jn'eet. the liabilities incurred by the Atkinson ; Government. Ii the loan is' floated successf uUy, the result on busines&jni the colony should be immediately beneficial: — Post.
