Changes in the Cabinet
I The WeUington Post says :— lt may. now be accepted as a fact that MrWJ. M. Larnach, the member for the Peninsula, wiU very shortly join the Ministry, and that the Hon. W. H... Reynolds will retire from the honorary seat which he now holds in the Cabinet. Mr Reynolds does not desire office, and it would be inconvenient for him to remain in "Wellington during the recess. When he first joined the Ministry it was understood that he only did 'to temporarily, in order to assist the Hon. Mr Buckley in the conduct of Government business through the Council. Mr Larnach' s presence in the Ministry wiH undoubtedly add strength to it. He wiU not much increass the debating power of the Treasury Benches, for he is not a great speaker, but he is-a capital practical man of "business, of high personal character, an acknowledged authority on . financial matters, and personally popular with ' the Houee. The portfolio which he will hold has not yet, we believe, been finaUy determined on, but probably he will relieve Mr Ballance of charge of the Mines Department, and not improbably Sir Jufius Yogel of the Customs. Por both of these portfolios Mr Larnach is well qualified, and his appointment to them would be considered generally aa satisfactory-. . -.^ x
