Kiwitea Concert

Tho concert and ball given at Kiwitea on Friday last wag a brilliant success, and resulted in a nett profit of about £16 for the use of the school committee. Messrs Banks, Templar, and Hedges are to be congratulated on their success. The thanks of the settlers are also due to the ladies who assisted, and especially to Mesdames Lockyer and Banks, who played* the accompaniments. About 8 o'clock the hall was filled by an eager and expectant audience, and the Bev.;Mr Stewart wa< appointed to preside. Mrs Lockyer opened the proceedings with % piano solo, foilowed by Mr Tappin, who sang in good style ' The Farmer's Boy/ Vl rs Lockyer sang, 'Kathleen Aroon/ and was loudly applauded. Mr Hedges read ' Muggins the Clerk,' to the delight of the audience. Mr Banks gave 'The Lass that loves a Sailor' in good form, und was well received. * Millie's Faith* was sung well by Mrs Barrows, and Miss Perry recited 'The May Queen' rerr nicely. • Mary of Arayle/ by Mr Carrie, and 'The Gipsies Warning,' by Mrs Shirley, were both well rendered* Mr Templar sang 'The Arab's Farewell to his Steed/ and was evidently a favorite. Mr Scott sang ' Shabby Genteel' in character, and afforded great amusement. After the interval Mrs Lockyer sang 'Bother the Men' in grand style, this being the best song of tho evening. Mr Tappin read • The Bashful Man/ which as a natural consequence was followed by a song from Mr .Robert Mcßeth. who «aye • F^r Away/ and received a welldeserved encore. Mrs Banks and Miss Stewart sang the duett 'Bright stars are shining/ very prettily. Mrs Mitchell's song, "Little Sister/ was given in good style. Space prevents our noticing some of the other parts, but 'Very Suspicious/ by Messrs Templar and Banks, concluded the performance, and left the audience in excellent humor. Dancing then followed, and was kept up to an early honr.
