The Recent Fatal Accident

LATER PARTICULARS. [per toitrd press association.] Christchubch, December 16. This morning at the High street cross* ing at Rangiora tbe up-traih from Christchurch ran into a van containing a party of young people—members of the Presbyterian choir —on their way to the Waituku seabeaeh. The occupants, numbering twelve were thrown out, two of them, Mr David Kerr and Miss Margaret Marrel), falling under the wheels of the' train, arid receiving terrible injuries from the effect of which they died shortly afterwards. The names of the others of the party and the injuries they, .received are a.T. follows : —Thomas Kerr, left arm badly broken and head cut j John Hughey, the driver, serious wounds on the bead.; D. McKay and Mrs ; McKay,, each two ribs broken; Misses H. and W. Stapleforl, Jane M^Craehen, A. Marrell, and Mr O. J. A Ten oings, more or less bruised and shak en. The deceased, David (Kerr, is a son of Mr- Thomas Kerr, of the well -known firm of Boyfl and' Kerr,' builders, and was 21 ■ years of. age. The young lady deceased was 15, years of age. No injury ': was done4o thetrain; ■ The- driver of the ran is said to be principally to blame for the accident.
