Branch roads have been formed through the sections at Dreyer's Rock, Central Mangaone, Hawera. and Pahiatua, at distances respectively froin Masterton of nbout fourteen miles, thirty-one miles, . thirty-five miles, and forty, jniies. .The Mangfahao sections are within fourteen miles of the town ot Woodville, The- Main Trunk Railway from Wellington to Napier is how being constructed t© a point about "seventeen miles nartn oi Masterton. Sites for railway stations have been selected at ! 3everal points The whole of the sections are covered with forest, the principal trees being tawa, rimu, hinau, rata, kahikatea, with totara in places ; the undergrowth is, as a rule heavy ; tbe general character of the soil is good, and in some places is of first-class quality, the formation being limestone, clay marl, sandstone, &o. The country is generally hilly and undnlating, but there are large flats as well as- broken ground within tho area; it is well-watered, and, as the climate is also very favourable, tho land should, when cleared and brought into cultivation, prove well adapted for pastoral and, to some ex ten %, agricultural purposes. . , The Kaiwbata *ect on- Ito 5 consist of high : r'lly land/of fair and inferior quality, covtr<u with light -bubh, mixed scrub, and manuka, occasional small open pa'ohes. ••- - • .- option 1, Plock IV., consist of arood hilly land, partly cleared and grassed, tbe balance being covered by light bush. The means of access are by a partly-formed bridle-track from Gladstone, and from the coaHt by the Kaiwbata Valley. Maps, scbetiulrs, ard application iofms can be obtained at tbe Land Office, Wellington, and maps and *chcdnles ! at the Post Ufßces, Featherston, Masterton, Woodville, ; Pnlmerston North, Foxton, and Wanganni, arid at the various Crown Land Offices throughout the colony.
