A Celebrated Victorian SheepRun.
The Terrinallum freehold of 47,320 acres of the finest pasture land for merino sheep in the Western district of Victoria, with 50,073 sheep, including the famous Terrinallum or stud flock, was offered at public auction in Melbourne on August 20, but was withdrawn, the highest price I per acre offered being 565, while the reserve price was £3 12s 6d per acre. On August 27th the celebratftd esta f e of the late Mr John Cumming was purchased by Messrs William Bailey and Agar Wynn, ot Ballarat, at a price withheld, but believed to be close upon acm arter ofa million. In the old squatting days of Victorii the Terrinallum flock, then the proparty of the Clyde Comrany, was regarded as one of the finest in the Western district; The late Mr John Cumming purchased the estate and flock in the year 1857, and a few years after he selected the finest ewes in the breeding flock to form the stud. Before he owned the flock none but rams from the finest flocks in Tasmania and Victoria had boon used as sires, and after the formation of the stud flock, the selection of rams was more carefully and critically made. A peculiarity in the breeding of tho flock was the introduction in 1873 of some imported Silesian rains from tlie flock of the Countess Ktosch, the effect of which on the sheep can still be traced in their high-bred heads and beautiful character of wool.
