Manchester Road Board

— ♦■ — An ordinary meeting of the Board was held at its offioe, Manchester street, on Saturday afternoon last. Present — Messrs Macarthur (Chairman), Linton, Grammar and Lethbridge. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Kiwitea Road Board re expenditure by the Manchester Board of £ for £ on Wilson's line, and asking for the Engineer to prepare an estimate of the oost of the work. A conversation was held on the matter of the costs of Messrs Hankins and Baker in the late case of Adsett v the Board, and it was afterwards resolved, That the further consideration of the matter be deferred till the next meeting. Resolved, That the Clerk write to the Kiwitea Road Board informing them that in the present state of the Board's funds ; it cannot go on with the work on Wilson's line at present, but that the Board has no objection to their Engineer providing an estimate of cost as requested. The matter of the amount of dog tax was next oonsidered. and it was resolved. That the tax be 10s per dog for the year 1885. A conversation was held on the matter of the slaughtering license fees, and after consulting the Act it was resolved. Thafc the liconse fee for 1885 be £f sJMling, with 3d per head for large and a halfpenny per head for small cattle in addition, as provided by the Act. Tenders from J. Fowell, Gardener Bros., L. P. Blixt, and P. O'Haggerly respectively, for the maintenance of the Palmerston- Gorge road for one. year, were then opened and discussed. After discussion it was resolved, That all the tenders for the maintenance of Palmerston-Gorge road be declined as excessive. Resolved, That Mr Bray, senior, be appointed registrar of dogs for the Manchester Road Board. Accounts amounting to £511 12s 10d were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
