This. afternoon a number of members ct the Manchester Rifles were at target practice, after which they were put through judging distan c drill. The company will parade for Government inspection at 6.30 this evening at the Public Hall. Robert Roekeil, railway station master at Normaiiby. has been arrested on a charge 'of embezzlement. Mr Boston, railway audit inspector, has recently been going through the nccounts at this station. and as a result of his examination criminal proceedings have been instituted against JEfckell. He was yesterday arrested by Constable McTvor, on information laid in Wanganni charging him with having embezzled a cheque for £7 10* paid in. He evidently was not surprised, for he said " I know what you want me for." H« was brought ap at the Resident M agistrale's Court before Captain Wilson. J.P-, on a different information, charging him with embezzling a cheque paid in on the 271h May last for £18. He was remanded for a week, when the case will be gone into. The extent of prisoner alte»ed defalcations aie not yet known, —llawera Star.
