Mr Stuart, the Liberal candidate, was ] i elected for the Hackney constituency, the seat for which was rendered vacant , by the death of the Right Hon. Henry Fawcett, by a majority of 6,000 votes. Caibo, November 20. Intelligence is to hand from Dongola that the Nile is now falling rapidly, and, in consequence, many boats sent to the front are useless for the passage of the cataracts. Small-pox of a mild type has appeared among the British troops at Dongola. Berlin, November 19. The International Conference on the Congo question, now holding a meeting here, have appointed a committee to define the boundaries of the Congo district. In the House of Commons last night VI r Gladstone, in replying to a question, announced that he was preparing plans for the reorganisation of Egyptian finance and that they would be submitted to the Powers. It would, however, be premature to disclose the details of measures he proposed to recommend. Beelin, November 20. The Reichstag was opened to-day by the Emperor William.
