Nelson Hops
+ We publish the following exlract from a report on some Nelson hops, shipped by Mr Saxon, of Motueka :— " These bops ai rived in a satisfactory co> dition and were prepared in a manner admirably j adapted for tbe London market. The ; style of packages, the colour and flavour of the hops, and their freedom from leaves ' and stems were such as to attract the favourable attention of buyers Notwithstanding the very unsettled state of the market, tbe full price of £7 10s per cwt. was realized for this trial shipment " We heartily congratulate Mr Saxon on his success, and earnestly hope it may net as an incentive to other growers in •■repairing their crops for the market. We would, at the same time, draw attention to the emphasis which is laid on the a bcence of leaves and stems from the
hops now being considered. A good judge has informed us that carelessness j in this respect will knock 2d per pound j off the article. Unless hop growers attend personally to the picking, gatherers are certain to be indifferent aud a very annece-.'-ary loss sustained.
