Manchester Road Board

An ordisary meeting of the Board was held at its office, Manchester street, on Saturday afternoon last, and was proceeding as we went to press. Present — Wardens Macarthur, M.H.R. 'chairman), Bailey, Lethbridge and Grammar. The minutes of the previous meeting were read, and confirmed. The following correspondence was read: T. Masters, requesting the Board to allow him to fell a road line fronting soetion 8, at Stoney Creek ; A. S. Baker, solicitor, (held over from la*t meeting), re costs in the late action of Adsett v the Board ; report of the engineer (also held orcr from last meeting), re cost of maintenance. The Chairman intimated that as the board's application for bridges, namely, £5,000, would be granted it would be necessary to define tho districts for its expenditure, and take a vote of the ratepayers on the matter. it was then resolved, 1. That, the following be the distriot to he rated under the Act foi the one-fourth of the money necessary for the construction of a, bridge at the Oroua River, near Bull's mill, namely, all that portion of No. 5 ward, lying between the railway and Reid's line and section 17 and 16, subdivision O, 32, 31, 30. 29, 28. 27, and 26, sub division H, and that portion of the Government totara reserve lying on the north side of Reid's line, aud th. section known as * Menzies', and sections 1 and 2, sub division G. 2. That the following be the district to be rated tor the fourth of the grant for the construction of a bridge at the Lower Gorge ferry, viz., No. 6 ward, Manchester Road district. The Chairman said that it would be necessary, as there were only four local bodies in the Oroua district, for the chairmen of those bodies to meet and elect two other members to fill up the required number in the so-called County Council. It was resolved, That tenders be called for the Pabnerston-Gorge. road, from the boundary of the Manchester Block to - to tbe Gorge; also for the maintenance of road, from Stoney Credt to the boundary of 6 ward, i.e.. Ihe. Gorge; also, for the maintenance of the Ashurst road from the Oroua River- to sPction-A. No. 5 ward, all for the term of 12 months. Mr .Vl asters was -.authorized to fell bush as requested at the price, of '30.* per acre, and Messrs Lei hbridge and Downes nbio at the same rate. The Board then adjourned.
